Free Forever 21 gift cards at Oakbrook Center-Saturday, 2/16

The first 300 shoppers at the newly renovated 20,000 sq. ft. Forever 21 at Oakbrook Center will receive a gift card of $5-150. Most will probably be $5, but that will buy a few lip glosses at this glam bi-level emporium for cosmetics, menswear & womenswear! Doors open at 10:00 a.m. YIKES.

“Tax Free” weekend at The 900 Shops-Saturday-Monday, 2/16-2/18

Starting tomorrow, the 900 North Michigan Shops, one of Chicago’s  upscale malls, will offer a discount of 9.25% to buyers to offset sales tax. If you’ve eyed an item at J. Crew, Club Monaco or 36 other stores, this is your chance to eke out some extra value on a pricey purchase. Download this access pass to present at the register for the deal.

900 shopstwilightIf you drive, parking is $10 for the day when validated with purchase, which is less than half of what you’d usually pay for an hour or less (not a typo). Take the opportunity to stroll along the Magnificent Mile and shop without having to schlep your stuff home on public transportation.

Chinese New Year parades-Saturday & Sunday, 2/16-2/17, 1:00 p.m.

Saturday’s Argyle Street parade may be considered the attention-seeking little sibling of its Chinatown counterpart. The smaller-scale celebration will still have a ton of entertainment value, and not just because it’s free. Scheduled groups will feature martial arts demos by Shaolin monks, fireworks, dance groups, marching bands and floats.CNYparadedragn

The Chinatown parade on Sunday is the showier lotus, adding the Miss Friendship Ambassador to the mix of marching groups. It’s larger, older, and after all, you’ll be in Chinatown! Peruse this link for information and coupons for local businesses. Choose whichever parade suits your schedule, but you’ve got to love the afternoon start time for both.

Last Call-last weekend for….

Both Chicago Theatre Week and the Chicago Auto Show are closing after this weekend. There’s still time to enjoy some of the plays I talked about in last week’s edition, so check it out!

With so many cultural activities and such great bargains on winter merchandise this month, how are you budgeting your disposable income?
