Spring Collabo Report-Prints Charming!



Heavy sighs accompanied by fingerless-gloved hand-wringing over here. It’s March and Chiberia is trying to make a comeback, but in defiance I’ve scoured the web for news of designer and celebrity collaborations to perk me up.

Perhaps the uncharacteristic length of this winter will result in early markdowns? See what I did there…silver lining, y’all! I’m taking notes on the following promising partnerships…


Peter Pilotto for Target

This launch was one of the earliest and most newsworthy for Spring 2014. The design duo’s bright colors and mixed patterns could hardly be missed in the media dominated by Polar Vortex coverage. The news is that everything has been marked down 30%!

Most of us will pair an item with a more subdued solid, but pattern mixing pros can have a ball with these pieces! The swim separates are fun for a late spring break, and the split asymmetrical hem skirts are trending on red carpets & runways at much higher prices.

Seize your opportunity to grab deals on graphic print tanks, dresses and blouses for spring. Sizing runs very small, so you might need to try a few sizes for the right fit. I hope there are goodies left for you at your local store, because I haven’t been able to order online after several tries on different days. Poor Target.com, this really isn’t your year, is it?


The Beatles Yellow Submarine Vans

Sometimes fandom is a trait passed down from generation to generation, so it makes sense that Vans is offering their Fab Four-themed sneaks in sizes for toddlers to adults. The colorful retro prints are based on some of the Beatles most enduring titles. Father’s Day will be here soon…doesn’t everyone know a male Beatles fan who is impossible to surprise? It’s a great way for pattern-shy guys to work a print into their Spring wardrobes!

My mommy-biased pick is the Yellow Submarine slip-on, because who needs an easy-on shoe more than a toddler? Think of it as a way of exposing your kid to culture and history, not inflicting your musical taste on young ears….I say start them early!

Sweets are not a big thing for me, but I do find their depiction in everyday objects endlessly charming. Claire’s has partnered with Dylan’s Candy Bar to create a line of jewelry and accessories that appeal to everyone with a similar viewpoint.

Nail art is so hot right now, and this alliance has created scented press-on nails in vibrant candy prints. I am also a fan of the chunky charm jewelry, lip balms and novelty candies. They will spice up your girl’s Easter basket or care package with a multicolored manicure! After all, Rihanna shops at Claire’s, and she’s had 3 Vogue covers!

    You know why there is a sale on Peter Pilotto at Target? Because the line is AWFUL! Seriously, have you seen it? Who would look good in these clothes. They missed the mark on this one. Missoni sold out in seconds….just sayin’…..

      I’m not saying the line is for everybody, but I have seen some put together looks. I’d buy the sunglasses if I could find them. Target’s collabs have been inconsistent, but I’m always interested!
